RELEVANCE OF BHAGAT SINGH

i dont remember birthdays and other occasions and this is a reason of my friends not being happy about me. but 23rd march is one day that i clearly remember as the martyrdom day of bhagat singh, sukhdev and rajguru. ironically, i remember those who dont even exist today, physically!
why do i do that? am i really insane ? atleast i cannot answer that!

when we refer to bhagat singh, he is not just  to be referred as a person or  an epitome of sacrifice but a thought and more vividly an ideology. he should not be treated different from other martyrs. he was the leader of them. it is sad that we mostly remember him for the hate we have for british rather than the love we could have for him. because of this we have not really understood him becuase without love their is no understanding, their is only knowledge. we hated british because we wanted to possess our lands and not because we understood what they actually were doing. this is supported by the fact that the oppression has not ended still and we have become more knowledgeable about the world. but do we understand it today?

he was against oppression.  we will not try labeling him with ideologies as this will complicate the discussion. the oppression he talked about was the one of any sort. he never said oppression of the british on indians but the oppression of man by man. and because i see the oppression ever increasing though more silently now, i see more relevance of bhagat singh.

on the lighter side, their is a big following of bhagat singh for his jatt (caste) surname "sandhu" in punjab. sadly, like the dalits, he was also not saved from the labeling done by his so called followers. he is the representative of dalits, not by caste but the literal meaning which is "the oppressed, ignored and the teased" so we have made images of him which are quite contrary to what he was and thought. that is what we do to religions. we mould the religion according to our will. when i see guru granth sahib today, it is no more that an idol for the majority.

to understand the relevance of bhagat singh, we have to first understand the situation of the world today. if that is unclear, the relevance is going to be wrong. right now we are like dogs tied with a rope to a tree which we know as our home. the rope is of the fear of insecurity. and all what we do and know is part of that small circle bounded by the length of the rope. as the fear and insecurity is increasing, the rope is becoming smaller and smaller and our experiments and experiences more narrower. how could then we see the whole world when we have tied ourselves in fear to a small piece of land. when we have started believing that some square meters of the land i possess is "mine" and not the whole earth.

all what we have become is contrary to bhagat singh. he felt responsible for all rather than his family. our parents cannot accept this. the whole concept of family is possession and it is bound to create fear. then why do we need to understand bhagat singh? we dont need! we need time management techniques, yoga, and some "spirtual" guru which makes us escape our reality. for us, the purpose-less beings, some words of his will be good to read,

"My life has been dedicated to the noblest cause, that of the freedom of the country. Therefore, there is no rest or worldly desire that can lure me now"

most of us have desires as our dedication,
few of us want to live in the same conditions but still wanting to be free of desires

as bhagat singh says, the two are inseparable. our comfort zones dont contain our life. they contain the escape from the life that exists outside the zone.
