Distress and attitude

human life is having different phases and one or more of these include the feeling of distress or suffering. its more relevant to think about it when one is going through it. we all go through it. it can be escaped, solved, enjoyed. but is it just about my attitude? focusing primarily on our attitude is erroneous as our physical n mental abilities are the ones which have to face the situation n tackle it. between our abilities and attitude, ability is the primary. how we look at our abilities is defined by attitude. that will define our direction. it also decides the direction of our further progress. so the link between myself (me and my abilities) and external conditions is my attitude. attitude gains importance as neither i am perfect and nor the conditions. but because attitude cannot supersede my abilities and external unforseen conditions, suffering or distress is bound to happen in some cases.
during suffering, mind is challenged. its struck. thats the normal reaction and the correct one, as the challenge is to be tackled. to escape and "not think much" are the worst of attitudes as it creates a condition which opposes the condition created by the mind to solve the problem. external conditions might again force us to do that but it is us who take the decision. such decisions form a habit and a culture. when that happens suffering becomes something unwanted and it creates more fear. we could never learn from it. instead of becoming strong, we become weak. now the circle starts. if we recollect, ability supersedes attitude. so when we say, we become weak, our abilities go down and hence our attitude has to come down. but our ego comes in the lead then. so the attitude is now decided by my ego and hence gets disconnected from my real being. clearly focusing on attitude in such condition is again erroneous as ego is giving birth to it.
now when one is not learning from the moments of distress and suffering, one starts accepting all that is! which is just not the right thing to do as we then allow the conditions to play with us. our attitude in such cases will have no effect as it would be already alienated from ourselves.
